I'm it :)

Because I have a four day weekend and nothing to do (I'm sure everyone else is out at parties and barbecues - damnit, why didn't y'all invite me?!?), I've got enough free time on my hands to answer these fun "sentence starters" (as we call them in first grade). They were passed along to me by maestra. I have to complete 5 of the sentences listed below, and then tag 3 more people to do the same.

if I could be a scientist...If I could be a farmer...If I could be a musician...If I could be a doctor...If I could be a painter...If I could be a gardener...If I could be a missionary...If I could be a chef...If I could be an architect...If I could be a linguist...If I could be a psychologist...If I could be a librarian...If I could be an athlete...If I could be a lawyer...If I could be an inn-keeper...If I could be a professor...If I could be a writer...If I could be a llama-rider...If I could be a bonnie pirate...If I could be an astronaut...If I could be a world famous blogger...If I could be a justice on any one court in the world...If I could be married to any current famous political figure...

Let's see...

If I could be an athlete, I'd be a diver. First, I'd have to learn how to swim. And conquer my fear of heights. And bathing suits. Then I'd have to learn how to do all those fancy flips without smacking my head against the diving board. Hmmm... Maybe diving isn't such a great idea after all...

If I could be an inn-keeper, I'd open a cute Bed and Breakfast somewhere in New England. The inn would have a rustic quality, with a wrap-around porch (complete with swing), a piano in the sitting room, and a shelf stocked with books about the area for the guests to look through while they sip their cocoa by the fire. I'd serve yummy pancakes for breakfast, family style. We'd feature a different homemade soup every day for lunch. I'd have regulars come back every year, and they'd recommend all their friends to me.

If I could be a musician, I'd be a singer/songwriter. I'd play piano and tour with my guitar playing brother. We'd be like the acoustic version of the White Stripes, only less freaky-looking and way more talented. We'd start out by opening for Ben Folds, and soon we'd have our own following. We'd kick some serious ass, yo.

If I could be a librarian, I'd open a children's-only library. It'd be painted with murals from famous stories, and stocked with books from the classic to the comtemporary. There would be pillows and beanbag chairs and small comfy couches all over the building, where kids could curl up and read their favorite stories. We'd have an author study each month, where books from a specific author would be displayed and read aloud in daily story circles. There would be no late fees, and there would be a great out-pouring of community support in the form of books and money to keep us afloat.

If I could be a professor, I'd teach a course on Children's Literature for Teachers. (Keeping with my children's library theme.) I'd make it madatory for my students to read what the kids are reading... Harry Potter, Junie B. Jones, Maniac Magee. They'd have to learn the art of story-telling, making the characters come to life when they read a book to children (and we'd practice on real kids). We'd have field trips to classrooms, libraries and bookstores. I'd teach them how to develop fabulous cross-curriculur activities based on trade books. For their final project, they'd have to create their own unit, designed around a book of their choice.

Okay, there's mine. Now I tag Sara, Suzan, and 8o8gnsurfing.

Thanks, Dree. This looks interesting. I'll give it some thought and post in a bit.

Hey, like an assignment!
