... you walk into the school parking lot at the end of the day and notice that your car has the words "clean me" traced in the dirt on the passenger side door... and the first thing you think is, "At least it's spelled right."

Ha, ha, ha! I know that's right!!!
How about these:
1) You know you are a teacher when you see all kinds of expletives and graffiti sprayed on the walls and you think - "At least they spelled it right."
2) When your class walks by and sees the graffiti and they all start to phonetically sound out the nasty words. On more than one occasion I have thought " Hey! They are figuring out phonetic awareness and transferring it to text around them!" :-)
You have to find the silver lining, right?

I had a few of my 3rd grade students writing some notes with a few choice words back and forth in class.
If only their spelling homework was nearly as accurate.:(
