Blondie tells a story

And this one's a doozy. Just to remind you, Blondie is a 2nd year first grader who frequents the bar where her mother is employed. In her spare time, she pens riveting tales about drunken birds.

Today, when I went to pick my kids up from art class, Mrs H. (art teacher) said to me, "I need to talk to you." As any teacher can attest, no good news can follow those words. "When Blondie was working on her painting, she said, 'I'm going to have sex with my boyfriend on the bed.' All of the kids around her heard it, and they all started talking about it." Sigh. "Okay," I said. "Thanks for telling me. I'll deal with it."

I tracked down Principal and told her the story. She told me to write her up (incident report) and said she'd call Blondie down to the office later (which she did). Not that it'll do any good. This child shows no remorse for anything she's ever done. She never cries, she smirks when she apologizes, and she thinks everything is a huge joke. Why? Because she knows damn well that NOTHING will happen to her when she gets home. So all the correction, discipline and behavior modification plans are completely useless, and we both know it.

In what twisted world is it acceptable for a 7 year old girl to go to a bar and pretend to pour drinks? To watch movies like "The Ring" and "The Grudge," and to own a Bride of Chucky doll? To have a working knowledge of sex, at least enough to know that it's done on a bed with a boyfriend?

And to think... when I was 7, I was still playing with my Barbies.

I was very naive. I thought sex was just laying in bed naked with someone until the age of 15! I feel bad for this girl because the blame lies with her mother. A child only absorbs and shows what is shown to her. At some point, this kind of parenting is neglect...moral neglect...and I am not the type of person to throw around the word 'moral' lightly. Meaning...I am not the high and mighty type. All you can do as her teacher is model appropriate behaviors, strongly voice that you feel that watching those movies is "not okay", and hope for the best.

Head exploding.

I cannot fathom how difficult it must be to be in your situation. That this child is placed in such harmful situations (and I think they are harmful) sickens me.

Here's something, though: My parents owned a bar for years, and on Sundays, when my mom opened, she'd sometimes take my daughter. G loved it, because she could play music on the jukebox and just dance before anyone got there. The concept of alcohol was never presented. Why? BECAUSE SHE'S A CHILD!

I detest people like Blondie's mom. Rather than look out for her child and her child's future, she's obviously decided that the status quo is good enough. Ugh.

You know she probably plays with Barbies too, just one a whole different level!
What a horrible story though. Poor kid, seems like she won't even have a chance.
