it's my party and ... well, you know the rest

For those of you who don't know me well, I am an absolute sucker for a good party. I love everything about them. I love dressing up (or down, as the case may be), going out, seeing friends, music, dancing, singing, drinking, eating. Everything.

And I love having parties. Lately I've gotten into theme parties (I know, cheesy as all get out... but very fun). Over the past few years, I've planned two theme parties. I had a luau, complete with leis (plastic), pineapple chicken, pulled pork, tiki torches, and fresh fruit ka-bobs. Last summer my brother & I had a fiesta. We went all out with a make-your-own taco buffet and a pitcher of sangria, plus a few sombreros to keep things interesting. Both parties were a success.

This summer, we're having a party that I've dubbed "Philly Phest." We're having all sorts of Philadelphia-themed foods (hoagies, Tastykakes, soft pretzels) and decorating with whatever Philly souvenirs we've got laying around. We've got about 30 people coming so far, and another 10 who haven't responded yet. Should be a good time.

Normally when I have a party, I'm all about the planning and the shopping and the general chaos that goes with it. But for some reason, I'm just not into it this year. The party is a little over a week away, and I haven't bought a single thing yet. I made a food list a week ago, and haven't touched it since. I don't know what my problem is. I'm just not feeling the party vibe right now. I gotta get my ass in gear soon, or else my guests will be eating leftovers and drinking tapwater. That won't do at all. :)

Dree, we must have been friends in another life. I have faith in your that you will through an excellent party. The menu sounds great, but really, as long as people are there hanging out, it is a party.

Sounds like fun! I hope the weather is good. (I assume this is going to be an outdoor party?) I've never heard of Tastykakes before... sort of like Hostess?
