Gung hay fat choy!

First grade spent part of last week and the beginning of this week celebrating Chinese New Year. Check out some of our activities:

We made paper lanterns.

We learned how to write "boy" and "girl" in Chinese characters (the top is traced, the bottom they did on their own).

We learned how to eat rice with chopsticks.

We got to see students from a visiting school perform traditional Chinese dances, including the Lion Dance!

We also learned how to say "hello," "thank you," and "Happy New Year" in Chinese. We watched Mulan and read Tikki Tikki Tembo.

I'd have gone into the Chinese culture a little bit more, but our class has to research Africa as part of a Culture Day we're having this Friday.

We're well on our way to becoming "world travelers!"
