June? Are you out there?

I am so ready for May to be over. I'm officially out of steam. Must be like "The Little Engine That Could." I think I can, I think I can...

Things That Have Frustrated Me This Week

Blondie's mom signed the note. She didn't bother to apologize, or write back, or ... anything. Just a signature. Better than nothing, I guess.

The boy whose mother is addicted to cocaine is now living with his grandfather. His mother lost his schoolbag, and all the contents therein, "somewhere on Front Street." Fabulous. Grandpop bought him a new schoolbag, and I had to dig around for pencils, a pencil case, crayons, copybooks, and a folder. I've noticed subtle changes in his behavior (which, given his situation, are completely warranted). He's happy-go-lucky pretty much all the time, but lately his journals have been reflecting signs of his trauma. His stories are called "Boo!" or "Goodbye, Dad," and involve monsters, bad men, and Dad going away. Such a sad story.

Things That Make Me Incredibly Happy

Frequent Absentee Girl has made it to school three days this week, so far. Fingers crossed that she makes it in for the next two.

Tomorrow is my last day of teaching CCD for the year. Whoo-hoo! The Director of Religious Education is taking all the CCD teachers out for dinner tomorrow as a thank you. I'm looking forward to the dinner, as well as having the remainder of my Thursdays free.

One of my boys has blossomed into an extremely creative writer. His daily journal entries make me laugh. It's uplifting to see progress like this in the midst of everything else that's going on.

Counting Down?

Not yet. But next week is our last full week of school. I'll start an official countdown soon.
